Installation

During my visits to the Favela Jacarezinho in Rio de Janeiro, accompanied by the photographer Pedro Lobo, I noticed that our guides were in constant telephone contact with their organization to ensure our safety. Palavras, conversations of, about, with….., everything revolves around what happens in the favelas. Communication, exchange of ideas, the portaphone, the mobile phone, the walkie-talkie as a helper, transmitter of information necessary to overcome the inadequacies. Around us a tangle of languages, signals.
“A gente i amigo, eles fugiram”; we, we are friends, they are running away: said Rafael.
The sound installation “Palavras,” four wooden arms with plinth (a loudspeaker is installed in the bases), communicate with each other. “Palavras” is thus a quadrophone composition that can be heard with two specified synchronous CD-players.
